Approximately 15 percent of pumps sent back to White Knight for evaluation, pass all tests that are performed on a brand new pump before shipping. While pulling a pump and sending it back to the manufacturer may seem like an easy way to see if a pump is the problem or not, in actuality, this is not the case. It is very expensive and time consuming for both the user and the manufacturer when consideration is given to decontamination, shipping, and evaluation procedures, costs, and time. Besides this, the real problem still needs to be found. We once had a very frustrated technician call White Knight informing us that a pump had failed. He put in a new one, it didn’t work, he put in another one and it didn’t work, he put in a third new pump and it worked perfectly for three days before it also failed. To make a long story short, it was found that a door interlock safety switch was malfunctioning causing it to close the solenoid valve that sends air to the pump. In actuality, nothing was wrong with any of the pumps, but the constant opening and closing of the door as pumps were changed out caused the safety switch to begin to work again, at least temporarily. It is these types of issues that we are trying to limit. By taking some time now to systematically follow the procedures in this guide, it is our belief that countless wasted hours, frustrations and lost money will be avoided.
